2 verses

just two Bible verse things from recently:

Jeremiah 28:5-6

The the prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah before the priests and all the people who were standing in the houuse of the Lord. He said"Amen! May the Lord do so! May the Lord fulfill the words you have prophesied by bringing the articles of the Lord's house and all the exiles back to this place from Babylon.

there was a little commentary thing in my Bible asking was he being sarcastic and apparently it thought so based on the fact that Jeremiah did not think that those words were going to be fulfilled ... which I dont get ... just cos he does not think they will happen doesnt mean he does not wish it would ... I think history and general reputation might have coloured that belief ... I mean his history and reputation as being one to prophecy disaster and moan and wail over Israel and their sins and the fruits of their sins might lead you to think he is a bitter old man who just loves to bring bad news but why would that be? and why would that even matter ... who would NOT want those things to happen? I dont see how a man who had spent so much time with God and prophesying in His name could be so bitter to his heart ... he may be bitter over the continued need to be the bearer of bad tidings due to the nation's seeming lack of desire to change or believe anything he said to be true ... but sure his heart was so attuned and spent so much time with God that his heart was soft and loving like God's ... always wanting to see good come about ... always hoping ... no matter how many times Israel strayed I dont think that Jeremiah ever wanted these things to happen ... he wanted them to be right with God no doubt and that would have brought about that state of affairs but I think also that he would have wanted the exiles and the Lord's temple articles back just because that was where they were supposed to be! it was their home!

I dont know I cant describe it at all well and have gone at it badly but it just shocks me to see that a man of God could say Yes I hope to see that happen .. and everyone thinks he is being sarcastic ... when I see no reason to think that Jeremiah's heart was not turned to the people of Israel ... no reason to think that he would not (along with God) deeply desire the day when all the exiles were home and the temple filled again ...

how could it be any other way? do you not think Jeremiah loved the people of Israel? do you think that parents of children who are in trouble constantly do not love their children simply because they have to tell them they were wrong and tell them what will happen if they do not change their hearts? often it would see parents of those children are MORE loving ... if mostly in a heartbroken why are they doing this to themselves way ... do they not DESPERATELY desire the return to wholeness of their children's lives? even if undeserved and unearned ... do they not just want it for them out of the love the carry in their hearts?

why would Jeremiah not be like such a parent?

I mean who is to say maybe he was being sarcastic and pointed to the prophets there ... but that again does not mean his heart would not have rejoiced in their blessings ... even if it made him look like a doom saying fool ...

I think even in some verses he talks of this heart he has for the people to see them renewed

yeah dont quote me on it ... just look for it ... maybe at Bible gateway they have searching stuff there ...

I would but I am busy trying to stop talking about this before it makes even less sense ...

also I laughed so hard a few nights ago ... good time to get some laughs too actually ... Matthew 16:5-12 ... especially 7 ... when Jesus is trying to teach them something and the disciples are thinking he is a having a go at them for forgetting to bring bread the other day ... haha ... can just see them at verse 12 all going "oooohh NOW I get it!"

and Jesus just with his eyes closed shaking his head

thats not a sin right? wondering why people are so slow to get things or make really odd connections and think you are mad at them

well if it is to you you can feel free to not imagine that Jesus did that :)

Here are the verses for easy access!

The Yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees

5When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread. 6"Be careful," Jesus said to them. "Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
7They discussed this among themselves and said, "It is because we didn't bring any bread."

8Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, "You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? 9Do you still not understand? Don't you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? 10Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? 11How is it you don't understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees." 12Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Isnt that just so like people though latching on to the one thing they understand (in this case yeast as a part of making bread) and running with it and usually finding something they were worried they could be in trouble for ...

or is that just me that worries and finds odd connections?

oh no! that is the kind of thing my Dad says all the time, presumably to take the possible offence out of saying people are silly sometimes by applying it to himself ... sometimes I wonder if that takes something of the ability to have an effect of his words ... I mean it is an offence because they actually take it an apply it to themselves or to people they care for ... and otherwise they might not apply it to themselves at all

maybe?

am I just being a hard ass? wanting to make sure there is something there to make it stick?

guess I'm not quite ready to write that book on exactly what should be done always in every situation ... maybe tomorrow?

ok tomorrow it is!

best get to sleep now so I have the energy to get it written then!
